What are we thankful for this season? The ability to bring great and rare artists like Mark Eitzel, from American Music Club. Of course, we couldn’t do it without you, so while you’re making your Xmas/whatever shopping list, don’t forget to toss a Beachland ticket (or two or three). That way, we can keep bringing in guys like Eitzel. His new album is out on Merge Records, and it’s called Don’t Be A Stranger, and critics are calling it the best stuff since Eitzel’s American Music Club heyday. You know what else we’re grateful for? The fact that Cleveland is home to the great band Expecting Rain. A couple of years ago, these guys were putting out records whose songs and production quality should have taken the world by storm. These guys could have been in a movie, or at least very least on one of those chic Starbucks compilations. Instead, they shucked their lushly acoustic, Nick Drake-influenced sound and headed for the realms of rock, turning into the mighty Herzog. Their new lovely rejection/embracing of rock n’ roll is appropriately entitled F*ck The World. Don’t miss out on one of Cleveland’s greats.
