The Bell House, Brooklyn, NY
21 years and over
Dig Deeper returns to the Bell House with another once in a lifetime live soul show!
We are honored to present Chicago's legendary Green Berets in their second ever NYC show, plus longtime NYC resident Tony Middleon - both backed by the Divine Soul Rhythm Band.
The Green Berets started their recording career together with a bang, as Walter and the Admeration's on the La-Cindy label in Chicago, two pounding harmony soul tunes - "Man oh man" and "Life of tears" - sadly only a single digit number of playable copies are known to exist, but whenever one graces a turntable, dancefloor mayhem follows. Over time, they recorded as the Green Berets (on UNI), the High Society (on USA), and the Velvet Hammer (on Chila, Soozi and Polydor). Unfortunately, the group's career was cut short as various members were drafted to the Vietnam War, and they never had a chance to perform and tour as much as should have been the case.
We changed that in 2009 when we brought the Green Berets in for their first ever NYC show, and since then they have been our most-requested repeat Dig Deeper. Wait no longer!
Opening the night will be Tony Middleton, originally from Virginia, but now a longtime NYC resident. Tony is a headliner in his own right, with a vast career as a vocalist going back to the doo wop era in the Willows, a long-running career in soul both in the US and Paris, a veteran of Broadway, who has recorded with the likes of Quincy Jones, Burt Bacharach, and Bobby Matos, and performed with Smokey Robinson at the Apollo. Tony knocked us out in 2010 when he last joined us at Dig Deeper, and we've wanted to have him back ever since! For this show, Tony will be performing a special set from across his career.
Before and after the show, DJ Honky & Mr. Robinson spin all-original soul & funk 45s for the dancefloor - soul dance party!
