For those of you who missed out on Broadcast last year, here's the 2006 U.S. model, an electronica duo from Baltimore that writes sunny pop songs before frosting the tips. No surprise then that "Witch" qualifies as the quintessential post-summer/pre-autumn theme. Frontwoman Victoria Legrand conjures Mazzy Star covering the Zombies at their trippiest, though the rub's in the instrumentation: Lurking 8-bit synthlines suggest the spookier moments of Zelda or Castlevania yet simultaneously romanticize the adventure. If witches and necromancy aren't your bag (and believe me, they're my bag), check out the song's latter half, thawed out by a tender reverb guitar that quells the D&D vibes. While not exactly game for ice cream and Hacky Sack, this Beach House at least knows how to entertain on a rainy day.
