We are a cover band that plays a lot of 80's music. We started off getting together in a small bar playing music from the 50's one week, 60's the next, then 70's and on the fourth week when we hit the 80's we had a rather large crowd. So, we concentrated on that for a while and it took off. We have played private parties, weddings, great big New Year's Eve shows and even the Chancellor's Ball at Vanderbilt University!

Feb 19, 2010 at 9:00 PM CST (8:00 PM DOORS) The Running with Capital Fresh , J-Po and Vab , DJ Bowls & Diga at Mercy Lounge - Nashville, TN $7.00
The Running: An original grunge/reggae/blues band from Nashville, TN. Tired of the stagnant sounds bleeding from the radio waves of modern day, three individuals made the decision to quit complaining and act. In March of 2006, The Running set out on a journey to cross the metaphorical borders of the music industry and swore to set no boundaries on their creativity in order to do so. Since it?s inception, The Running has been constantly gigging and virally advertising, causing an outbreak of demand for their contagious groove. With 150+ shows under their belt in over 20 different cities and towns including New York, Atlanta, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and their hometown of Nashville, TN, they show no signs of slowing down. From backyard parties to nationally known venues, who knows where these guys find the time to consistently promote each show online and on the street, but their hard work is evident, as there is always a thirsty crowd at any shindig they play. Countless attempts have been made to capture the essence of The Running?s sound in a few, cleverly arranged words: soulful island grunge, neo-surfer jam rock, reggae-rock, blues-rock, bluesy reggae rock, to name a few. Although these terms can accurately describe individual songs by The Running, none of them can quite sum up their vibe as a whole. But rather than try to label something as unique as this fresh new band, why not leave all preconceived notions of what the word genre means and just open your ears? Catch up to The Running.

Mar 6, 2010 at 9:00 PM CST (8:00 PM DOORS) The Long Players perform Rod Stewart's EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY at Mercy Lounge - Nashville, TN $15.00
The Long Players are a group of Nashville-based musicians who have, since 2004, taken classic albums and performed them live in their original sequence. Recruiting guest artists from their exceptional musical community, the band has celebrated over 35 seminal albums over the last four years and gained national notoriety with features by NPR Radio and in The Associated Press. Their faithful renditions of LP?s like Bob Dylan?s ?Blonde On Blonde? (with sidemen from the original album, Al Kooper and Charlie McCoy sitting in) or The Rolling Stones ?Sticky Fingers? (when Stones sax man Bobby Keys sat in), have raised the bar of what ?playing in a cover band? is all about. Their sporadic shows are treated by both fans and the band as a celebration of the music that shaped their lives. The founding members of The Long Players include Bill Lloyd (from 80?s hit country-rockers Foster & Lloyd), Steve Allen (from LA power-pop icons 20/20), Steve Ebe (from Memphis rock band Human Radio), John Deaderick (sideman to Michael McDonald/Dixie Chicks/Patty Griffin/etc.) and Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen?s E. St. Band). When Tallent moved from Nashville in 2007, The Long Players enlisted musician/record producer, Brad Jones (who has worked with Josh Rouse, Jill Sobule and many others) to take over bass duties. The Long Players not only tap into Nashville?s amazing talent pool for their guest singers but also for guest players, when the ?platter du jour? calls for horns, strings or other additional players.

Mar 27, 2010 at 9:00 PM CDT (8:00 PM DOORS) Roman Candle & The Ravenna Colt at Mercy Lounge - Nashville, TN $8.00
Acclaimed rockers Roman Candle will release Oh Tall Tree in the Ear, their much-anticipated follow up to 2006's The Wee Hours Revue, May 12th, 2009 on Carnival Records. "The songs and lyrics on this record grew out of us thinking about the relationship between what we hear, and what we desire," lead singer and guitarist, Skip Matheny, said about Oh Tall Tree?. On songs like "Eden Was A Garden" -- the album's opening track -- and "They Say," listeners can hear those meditations on sound and longing play out for themselves. The songs for this album were written mostly in a rural part of the U.K., despite the band being from Chapel Hill, NC. "We had been playing shows in London after the Wee Hours came out, and we decided to stay for a month with some friends of ours who owned a manor house in east Yorkshire," says Matheny. "We stayed in an apartment above what used to be the horse stables, and wrote a bunch of lyrics and music for the new record." Matheny goes on to explain that the two major influences on them during this writing time, were Tom Stoppard's "Rock 'n' Roll," which they had seen while in London, and Rainer Maria Rilke's "Sonnets to Orpheus," which they were reading at the time.
Mar 28, 2010 at 9:00 PM CDT (8:00 PM DOORS) Joanna Newsom at Mercy Lounge - Nashville, TN $20.00
Joanna Newsom spent a lot time moving around - first touring much of the United States and then Europe, over and over and over. It was nice sometimes. There was an amazing tour of Japan, Australia, and New Zealand (with Smog) and a beautiful trip in Iceland where a couple of shows were played.Along the road, there were lots of festivals to play as well: Bonaroo, Sasquatch, Green Man, Rothskilde, ATP, and the Patti Smith-curated Meltdown Festival...maybe even a few others. Joanna played a benefit concert with her hero Neil Young too. She blew everyone away at all these shows, by the way.
In moments not involving the harp, the singing and the audiences around the world, there were other travels - like a car trip through Portugal with her flute-playing friend Ariella(one of the few people Joanna's played with so far onstage;though shows of the near-future will hopefully involve many other players) and a few weeks in Costa Rica on a family kayaking vacation. At some point in there, Joanna moved from San Francisco back to the hills of northern California.

Apr 28, 2010 at 9:00 PM CDT (8:00 PM DOORS) Beach House with Washed Out at Mercy Lounge - Nashville, TN $10.00
The Beach House you're about to meet isn't the same you may remember from before. Lives have been shuffled, tangled and re-aligned. When Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally returned home to Baltimore last Winter, they were worn thin from touring and travel. But deep inside them hot energies were incubating, ideas they had been whispering back and forth in the wake of their sophomore full-length, 2008's Devotion. By the following spring they began handing themselves over completely to those impulses, holing themselves up and exchanging ideas in a new, secluded practice space for dangerously long periods of time. As the songs that would become Teen Dream began to live, breathe and take shape, the duo was forced to leave much of their personal lives behind them. 'We're the same people, but this record has changed our directions,' Legrand muses. 'We were forced to let go of people and things we were holding onto as individuals: normalcy, daily rituals, the ability to take care of ourselves. We were dropped into a wilderness, but we had more clarity than we've ever had before.' Washed Out is Ernest Greene, a young guy from Georgia (via South Carolina) who makes bedroom synthpop that sounds blurred and woozily evocative, like someone smeared Vaseline all over an early OMD demo tape, then stayed up all night trying to recreate what they heard. To hear Greene tell it, he?s only been making music as Washed Out for a couple of months.

May 6, 2010 at 9:00 PM CDT (8:00 PM DOORS) Dr. Dog with Deer Tick at Cannery Ballroom - Nashville, TN $15.00
Dr. Dog has been creating music in various incarnations for a good four years now. Beginning with The Psychedelic Swamp, a concept album realized in the damp ruin of a flooded basement with waterlogged guitars and a digital delay pedal, the band has simmered on the back burner of our musical lives for most of its existence but we've recently renewed our resolve to forge ahead and give Dr. Dog the attention we think it deserves.
