Description
Vocalist Rebecca Kilgore presents Randy Porter (keyboards), Tom Wakeling (bass), and special guest Dan Faehnle from Pink Martini (guitar)
Rebecca Kilgore, renowned for her swinging melodic interpretation of music familiar and obscure from theGreat American Songbook, has been delighting listeners not only with her many recordings but her ebullient live performances. Her fans include Terry Gross, Bucky Pizzarelli, Michael Feinstein, Harry Allen, Dave Frishberg, Dan Barrett, and John Sheridan. Tender or hilarious, her singing always honors the song. She has over 50 recordings to her credit (most thanks to the Arbors Records label) and over 1,000 songs in her repertoire (and counting). Her most recent recording is with German pianist/arranger Bernd Lhotzky with whom she tours in Germany. Other recordings include collaborations with Nicki Parrott, Dan Barrett, Dave Frishberg, Harry Allen, John Sheridan, Paolo Alderighi, Eddie Erickson, Hal Smith, Lyle Ritz, John Pizzarelli, Bucky Pizzarelli, Duke Heitger, Randy Porter, and James Mason. Originally from Massachusetts, she's resided in Oregon since 1980 but keeps busy touring the US, Europe, and performing on jazz cruises.
"When Rebecca sings, the sun comes out." - Johnny Mandel
Awards and Honors: Oregon Music Hall of Fame, 2010 Oregon Jazz Society Hall of Fame Guest of Honor, Roswell Jazz Festival, 2013 Jazz Legend Honoree, San Diego Jazz Party, 2016
What Others Are Saying: Kilgore, who also sometimes teaches, was attracting much more attention in the late 90s and in 2000 owing to some very good, spirited and well-received albums. Her eclecticism was revealed in some of these sessions, which included a tribute to Maxine Sullivan for Audiophile Records, an appearance on a western swing set with Tom Morrell's Time-Warp Tophands on WR Records, another set with Barrett, Being A Bear, for Arbors Records, and, also for Arbors, a duo album with vocalist-banjoist- guitarist Eddie Erickson. Kilgore sings with lithe swing and has a breathily engaging tone. Her repertoire ranges through the great song standards which she interprets with charm and felicity. - The Encyclopedia of Popular Music by Colin Larkin
Rebecca is simply one of the best interpreters of The Great American Songbook. She has a gorgeous voice and has a deep connection with every song she touches. In a world of pretenders, she's absolutely the real thing. I love what she does! - Michael Feinstein
Becky sings with a beautiful clear sound, a great sense of time and swing, and a heartfelt unpretentiousness. - Dave Frishberg
If Benny Goodman were alive today, he'd hire Becky to sing in his band. - Bucky Pizzarelli
Rebecca Kilgore is the quintessential jazz singer. I look forward to every opportunity to work with her....every time is a real occasion! - John Sheridan
Becky is one of my favorite singers, and one of my greatest recent pleasures was presenting her in concert on Fresh Air. - Terry Gross, host of National Public Radio's Fresh Air
